And as soon as I again felt the taste of the biscuit soaked in linden tea, which my aunt treated me to (although I still did not understand why this memory pleased me so much, and I had to put off the solution for a long time), at the same instant the old gray house with a facade on the street, where the windows of my aunt's room looked out, he was attached, like a decoration, to an outbuilding with windows overlooking the garden, built behind the house for my parents (only this piece of antiquity still lived in my memory). And as soon as the house appeared, I already saw the town as it was in the morning, afternoon, evening, in any weather, the square where they took me before breakfast, the streets along which I walked, long walks in clear weather. And, as in the Japanese game, when pieces of paper similar to each other are lowered into a porcelain cup with water and these pieces are straightened in the water, take on certain shapes, are colored, each revealing its own peculiarity, they become flowers, buildings, tangible and identifiable creatures, all flowers in our garden and in Swann's park, Vivona's water lilies, the venerable inhabitants of the city, their houses, the church - the whole of Combray and its environs - everything that has shape and density - the city and gardens - floated out of a cup of tea.
